New Shoes..

New Rims & Tires for the MR2.  Staggered of course!

17” wheels.

Rota Grid 17x8 +35 (19.8 lb.), 17x9 +42 (19.4 lb.)

I went with Yokohama S.drive’s.

215/40R17 front (22 lb.), 235/40R17 (24 lb.)

Running stock alignment.

Looks great. Fills the wheel well nicely. Less gap than with the 16”, so it also looks like I’ve lowered the car a bit more. Clearance all around looks good. Fitment is great, no rub! Plenty of strut clearance. I was concerned about the rear fenders but the current camber should be able to handle the 235’s fine. The fitment is flush at the front. For my tastes any more would be too much. The rear fitment is good considering the stock fender (not rolled). It may be possible to push it out 3mm without a roll and just a minor tweak of the alignment but I’ll leave it for now. 245/40R17 (26 lb. each) might have been doable with stock fenders and a slight alignment but the 235’s are fine.

Lug nuts are Muteki SR48 Extended Open Ended 12x1.5 in matte black.

Looks awesome.. although I’m going to have to get used to the Bronze wheels. Some pangs of doubt.. should I have gone for Gold or stuck with plain Silver? Letting it sink in and just enjoying the ride.

For reference:

  • 16x7 with 205/45R16 weighed in at 37.0 lb. Current Dunlop tire in this size is 20 lb.
  • 16x8 with 225/45R16 weighed in at 40.8 lb. Current Dunlop tire in this size is 23 lb.
  • Current Front rim/tire combo should be 41.8 lb. or 4.8 lb. heavier.
  • Rear rim/tire combo should be 43.4 lb. or 3.4 lb. heavier.

Mateo photobombed with his creepy look..

This is only the 2nd set of aftermarket wheels I’ve ever purchased for the MR2 in 26 years!
