94+ Kouki Tail Lights

This was a bit of an impulse decision while waiting for my motor... kept looking & looking and decided to just pull the trigger.

I was shopping online for Toyota parts and found www.toyotaonlineparts.com otherwise known as McGeorge Toyota. I used http://www.mr2.com/TEXT/91to94taillight.html as a guide for part numbers and how to install.

The parts I ordered:

  • 81550-17110 Lamp assy rear combination RH
  • 81560-17150 Lamp assy rear combination LH
  • 81760-17040 Side Marker Lamp LH
  • 81750-17040 Side Marker Lamp RH
  • 75082-17050-C0 Finish Panel, Black
  • 90179-05004 Spoiler Nut (x 4)
  • 81670-17020 Lamp assy back-up
  • 75471-17110-B0 Plate Rear Name
  • 69055-17101 Lock Cylinder

Upon initial shopping all the parts i was looking for were listed as available but when I tried to checkout, I learned that the Lamp Assembly LH & RH as well as the Lamp Assembly Back-up were now discontinued. After that, the website updated and reflected the discontinued status for these items. Uh-oh. So I hit eBay and found NIB ones. I was going to buy used JDM parts which were relatively plentiful but was unsure about condition, etc. So I went for new. These parts weren’t inexpensive from Toyota and being discontinued placed a additional premium on them.  $$$

It took me about 3 hours of actual work start to finish to complete the install. That’s taking my time and being completely anal about things. I even washed & waxed the frame after removing the old assemblies. I found Nick Cigich and Rob Griffiths post in http://www.mr2.com/TEXT/91to94taillight.html the most helpful to follow. I re-used my existing wiring harnesses and tapped the backup lights to the left hand wiring harness (soldered).

So, was it worth the $$$? That question is always relative but for me I LOVE how they look on the car. It does change the look of the rear end!

I should have done it way sooner.
